Kohima, December 11 2008: The Government of India is "yet to prepare" to agree to the 'interim proposal' of the Isak-Muivah faction of National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) during the recently held three days parleys at Amsterdam in The Netherlands.

The talks were held between the Government of India representatives and NSCN representatives from December 7 to 9 .

Reports published in today's edition of Nagaland Page, an English daily newspaper based in Dimapur quoting NSCN sources from Amsterdam alleged that the Government of India had failed to honour its word, which was promised in the earlier talks in New Delhi.

"Talks have been held but the Indian side did not honour their word again.

They said they cannot discuss about interim proposal this time as they are not yet prepared to do so," NSCN sources said.

However, it was not divulged what the NSCN's "interim proposal" was all about.

However, Union Minister, Oscar Fernandes has assured the NSCN that the proposal will be taken up in the next round of talks also to be held in the Netherlands.

"Instead they talked about small things like the Assam Rifles and Khaplang group nexus," the sources added.

NSCN-IM chairman Isak Chishi Swu and its general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah explained to the Centre's representatives about Naga history and the bloodshed.

The NSCN leaders said the time would come that "we shake our hand and say you go your way and we go our way. And there will be no turning back".

The Government of India was represented by Oscar Fernandes, Centre's interlocutor for the talks and former Union Secy for Home, K.Padmanabaiah along with top officials from military and intelligence agencies. For the NSCN Swu and Muivah led the team for the talks. The talks reportedly started on Sunday and concluded on Tuesday without any fruitful result.

Illegal migrants have become threat to identity of NE people: NESO. (Page News Service)
DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 11: The North East Students' Organization (NESO) today held consultative meeting with the Naga Students' Federation (NSF) here and discussed on various issues to make the NESO much stronger.
Chairman of NESO, Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharjee told media persons that the Central Government has always adopted strategies of political injustice and economic exploitation. In such cases, he said, NESO has to be strengthened to fight for the common cause.
He said that the Northeastern region is facing numerous problems due to the policies adopted by the Government. "Only through united efforts, we can achieve our goal," he said.
Stating that students' community in the Northeast are facing various problems, Bhattacharjee said that there is a need for introducing new courses in the Universities and Colleges for the benefit of NE students. He said that most of the students have to go outside the Northeastern states to pursue their studies, but if new courses were introduced here, lots of students would be benefited. He also stressed on manpower planning in the region.
About the problem of influx of illegal foreign migrants in the Northeast, Bhattacharjee said that various fundamental groups are working in the Northeast but there is no comprehensive policy to solve this problem. He said the Government of India must take effective step to evict the illegal foreigners, who have now become a threat to the identity of the people of the Northeastern states. He also urged the Centre to adopt effective strategies to protect the identities of the Northeast people.
"If the Centre fails, then there is an alternative of giving a separate constitutional status to the Northeast with the right over land and resources," he suggested.
He further claimed the political parties and leaders are patronizing the illegal migrants for their vote banks, therefore urged the government to check these issues urgently.
The members of NESO came to Dimapur today to have consultations with the NSF, which has not taken the membership in the apex students' organization of the Northeast, following certain differences over the working principle. Today's meeting deliberated on various issues to sort out the differences and include NSF into the NESO fold.
However, according to NSF President, Imchatoba Imchen, the issue has not been resolved. He said that the NSF would take up the issued in their Federal Assembly scheduled to be held from December 13 at Senapati, Manipur
