Reunification of Nagas

Before the British arrived and partially colonized the land of the Nagas, no superior invading power had ever conquered them. Even the British took close to sixty years to subdue only about one-third of the Naga people. They called those remaining unconquered the Free Nagas and defined the area they were living in as Excluded Areas. Just because the British failed to take into consideration the wish of the Nagas to be free again once they had left, does not mean that the Nagas have no right to be free. No matter what surrounding peoples claim, no power has ever conquered the Nagas, not the British, not the Indians, not the Meitei, not the Ahoms or Assamese, neither by the Burmese. In order to be realistic, it is high time that this is recognized. This is the only way towards a solution, for Nagas do not claim any land belonging to any other peoples, only reunification of what has belonged to the Nagas from time immemorial.

India divided the Nagas and created Naga areas; first by officially establishing the international border between then Burma, now Myanmar and later by creating Nagaland state and other states that have a sizable population of Nagas. The Government of India for the past eight years has been engaged in official peace talks with the Naga Organization that is capable of withstanding the Indian military while at the same time directly and indirectly creates the turmoil that is now embroiling the states in opposition of reunification of the Nagas. Chief Minister of state Ibobi Singh is intentionally creating the current trouble in Manipur with the aim of imposing the arrogant will of the Meitei on the peoples of the hills, particularly the Nagas. How can one reconcile that with the quest to come to a solution?

The Naga International Support Center calls on both the Nagas and the Government of India to expedite the commencement of serious peace talks that will both profit the Indian People, who have to finance the 200.000 soldiers that occupy Nagaland and the Nagas, who will reap the benefit of long desired peace.
