Message of solidarity to NSF and NPMHR

Amsterdam, December 4 2004

Due to the restrictions placed on NISC, it is impossible for any of us to join you all for the grand celebration that commemorates the closing year of the Decade of the Indigenous Peoples of the World.

The Naga International Support Center (NISC) lauds the Naga Peoples, who through NSF and NPMHR signify the importance of their partnership with all Indigenous Peoples of the World. Sadly, the decade itself did not have great impact but for the fact that in Geneva, the Sub-commission for Indigenous Peoples is moving step by step, year after year, to further draft a declaration of collective Human Rights. That in itself is an important accomplishment, one that brings hope and determination to safeguard and pursue the right to self determination and the collective rights to land to be incorporated in Universal Human Rights.

NISC understand that only a one day programme was feasible. We regret that we are incapable of delivering the message of solidarity wishes in person. Nevertheless, from a humanitarian point of view the cause is a just one.

We all face difficulties. So, let’s join hands and we will overcome the difficulties we face, both those goals we are striving for as well as those on the personal level. Let’s stamp out the differences and fortify each other.

With Warm regards to all,

On behalf of NISC,

Drs. F.A.M. Welman
Secretary
